Police Criticised for Spending Money On Massage

The police in Sussex, UK, has been receiving criticism since it made the decision to spend thousands of pounds for massage services for the staff working at the call centre. The Sussex Police has about four hundred employees at its call centres.

The police force says the massage relieves stress and it has been used since the year 2005. The old three-year contract was coming to end and the department took a new contract worth of ten thousand British pounds.

Although the amount of money used for massage services sounds high, it may be worth it, since the employees will be more relaxed and alert doing their job. At least the Sussex police has a strong confidence on the effects of massage.

Northwest State Community College in collaboration with the Healing Arts Institute in Perrysburg, Ohio are offering an associate degree which covers technical studies of massage therapy.

Healing Arts Institute helps to teach massage therapy students the trade and the Northwest State Community College is responsible for teaching how to build and maintain successful businesses.

After the students have a diploma from the institute their are lincensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio. The courses college offers include skills in financial accounting, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

Chiropractor Jeff Donatello has opened a new service, Chair Massage Now, in a newly renovated office in Kittery. The idea behind the new service is that these days stressed-out people need a quick low cost massage.

To have a massage one needs no appointments. It is enough to just walk in and sign up. When the traditional, full-body table massages usually cost between $60 and $90 an hour, chair massage only cost $15 for 15 minutes.

“It’s all about convenience. We enable customers to get quick relief. We make it easy to get in, get rejuvenated and get out,” Donatello commented. During the massage the customer sits on a chair. The seated massage is also said to adress problems associated with prolonged periods sitting at a desk, such as stiff necks and headache.

The Woods Spa Offers Also Massage For Pets

The Woods Spa has recently added a new service to its list. They are now offering massage therapy for the man’s best friends - dogs. The massage is designed to relax and calm the animal as well as provide relief for arthritis or backache.

“The basic premise behind canine massage is just to pamper, to protect and to promote wellness. Any kind of muscle soreness, whether the result of injury, overstretching, misuse or even arthritis, a dog can really feel that.”

A separate room was reserved for the new service. The spa hopes that dog owners would also be interested in massage therapy while they bring their dog to a massage. “The basic idea of it is to bring together man and man’s best friend.” the owner of the spa tells.

Snake Massage Spa In Northern Israel

f you are too fed up with the traditional massage an Israeli health and beauty spa has a solution for you - a snake massage. Ada Barak’s spa in northern Israel is offering a special massage in which six non-venomous snakes are let to slither on their aching muscles and joints.

Barak uses California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes in her treatments, which she said were inspired by her belief that once people get over any initial misgivings, they find physical contact with the creatures to be soothing.

Large reptiles are told to be good for deep tissue massage while their smaller counterparts are said to be ideal for delicate areas such as face. The spa treats clients with snakes to relax aching muscles and joints for about $70.

Masssage Reduces Aggressivity Among Preschool Children

According to a research recently published in the 12th issues of the Massage Magazine one brief massage per day provided during day care throughout a one-year period, significantly decreased aggressive and deviant behavior among preschool children.

The study evaluated the effects of massage therapy on 110 children who scored high for behavior problems on the Child Behavior Checklist. hese children were selected from nine day-care centers throughout Sweden, and they were mostly between ages 4 and 5.

A full report on this research “Massage decreases aggression in preschool children: a long-term study” will run in the December issue of Massage Magazine.
